What can I do before I'm certified?

2 min readRCW 18.88B.021 — Certification requirements

After completing orientation and safety training you may provide care while you work toward certification within your deadline window — but you cannot perform nurse-delegated tasks until you are certified and delegation-trained.

  1. 1Complete orientation & safety training before working with clients alone.
  2. 2You can provide routine personal care tasks in the care plan while completing your 75-hour training.
  3. 3You cannot: perform nurse-delegated tasks (insulin, etc.), or represent yourself as certified.
  4. 4Track your 120-day training and 365-day certification deadlines — missing them means you cannot keep working.

New IPs through CDWA: your training and exam scheduling run through Consumer Direct Care Network Washington — contact them for enrollment issues.
