Client rights summary
Clients have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, to privacy, to make their own choices (including refusing care), to manage their own money, and to be free from abuse, neglect, and restraint.
- 1Dignity: talk to the client, not over them; use their preferred name; respect cultural and religious practices.
- 2Privacy: knock, close doors during care, protect their information โ share it only with the care team.
- 3Choice: clients direct their own lives โ schedules, food, visitors, and the right to refuse any part of care.
- 4Money: never borrow, lend, or accept gifts of money; financial decisions belong to the client or their legal representative.
- 5Freedom from restraint: never restrain, lock in, or medicate to control behavior.
